Age Verification Settings

Age Verification Settings for Customers

If you're selling age-restricted items at your physical stores (locations), you can also sell those items through your online store/app. For that, first, you need to configure the Age Verification with "FTx Identity." Once you configure the age-restriction details in FTx Identity, you need to utilize them in FTx Commerce to enable the age verification feature for age-restricted items.

1. Reaching Age Verification Settings

As a retailer/store admin, you can set up "Age Verification" for the e-commerce site/app through the store admin backend. The setup process will vary depending on whether multi-brand is disabled or enabled.

1.1 For Standalone Online Store

When the 'multi-brand' option is disabled in the control center, you have only a single online store/site for your business. Follow the below steps to set up the 'Age Verification' for the site/app:
  1. Step 1: Log into Store Admin
  2. Step 2: Click Settings -> General
  3. Step 3: Click the Age Verification

1.2 For Multiple Online Brand Stores

When the 'multi-brand' option is enabled from the control center side, the 'Age Verification' can be set up individually for each online brand store.
Follow the below steps to set up the age verification options for the store individually:
  1. Step 1: Log into Store Admin
  2. Step 2: Click Online Brand Stores
  3. Step 3: Click the Settings icon for the Online Brand Store

NotesNote: Whether multi-brand is enabled or disabled, the steps for setting up and managing the Age Verification settings will be the same. The multi-brand follows own individual age-verification settings.

2. Age Verification Settings

As a retailer/store admin, when you navigate to the "Age Verification" settings for the first time, you will find the switch disabled by default. By clicking the "Enable Age Verification" switch, the age verification settings will be activated and ready for settings.
You can customize the age verification settings based on your business requirements. Customers will undergo age verification according to the following settings:
1. Enable Age Verification- Main Switch
If the retailer/store admin enables only this main switch while keeping all other settings disabled, customers will see a soft pop-up notifying them that the website/app contains age-restricted products. However, they will still be able to access these products and place the order without any age verification.

2. Verify customer's age before showing age-restricted products
Enable this switch if you want to restrict the visibility of age-restricted products until the customer completes age verification. Customers will not be able to view these products without verifying their age.
3. Verify customer's age during checkout
If this switch is enabled, customers will be prompted to verify their age during checkout. Age verification will be mandatory to place an order.
However, whether customers need to verify their age before viewing age-restricted products depends on the "Verify Customer's Age Before Showing Age-Restricted Products" setting.
4. Verify customer's age during fulfillment (by scanning DL/FTx Identity QR code)
If this switch is enabled, a store employee must verify the customer’s age during order fulfillment by scanning the backside of their Driver’s License (DL) or an Age-Verified QR Code before handing over the order to the customers. Whether age verification is required earlier (before accessing age-restricted products or placing the order) depends on the above settings enabled or disabled.
This ensures that businesses comply with age-restriction regulations as per the regions/states while allowing flexibility based on specific requirements.
5. Verify age using FTx Identity
To integrate this option, you must set up and configure the age verification settings in FTx Identity, like Date of Birth (DOB) Entry, Driver’s License (DL) Upload, Live Camera Face Recognition, OTP verification on Mobile Number, Address Details aligning with Driver's License. Based on the configuration set in FTx Identity, customers must complete the age verification process on the website/app accordingly.
NotesNote: On the Store Admin side, a drop-down menu will display the available configuration options set up in FTx Identity. You must select the appropriate configuration to apply it to your online store/app.
If multi-brand is enabled for the retailer’s account from the Control Center, age verification settings can be configured for the brand individually. But age-restriction configuration that how customers verify their age can be set up on FTx Identity side.  Retailers can decide which age verification process they want to apply for the brand as per age-restriction configuration at FTx Identity side.

Once you have configured the age verification settings, click "Save" to apply them.

3. Age Verification Options for Customers

When customers access the site/app, they will get age verification pop-up as per the settings are enabled in the Age Verifications from Store Admin.
