Age Verification Settings
"Sell age-restricted items by configuring the Age Verification Settings first"
If you're selling age-restricted items at your physical stores (locations), you can also sell those items through FTx Commerce online store/app. For that, first, you need to configure the Age Verification with "FTx Identity."
> Prerequisites
Before configuring Age Verification in Store Admin, make sure:
- The required age-restriction configuration is available in FTx Identity.
- The Store Admin user has access to the required store settings.
- For multi-brand retailers, the required online brand store is available
Configure Age Verification settings in FTx Commerce Store Admin. Store Admin users can control when customers need to verify their age:
- Before viewing age-restricted products
- During checkout
- During order fulfillment
Age Verification can be configured for a standalone online store or separately for each online brand store.
1. Reaching Age Verification Settings
As a retailer/store Admin, you can set up "Age Verification" for the online store through the Store Admin backend. The setup process will vary depending on whether multi-brand is disabled or enabled.
1.1 For Standalone Online Store
When the "multi-brand" option is disabled in Control Center, you have only a single online store/site for your business. Follow the below steps to set up "Age Verification" for the site/app:
- Step 1: Log into Store Admin
- Step 2: Click Settings -> General
- Step 3: Click Age Verification

1.2 For Multiple Online Brand Stores
When the "multi-brand" option is enabled from the Control Center side, the "Age Verification" can be set up individually for each online brand store.
Follow the steps below to set up the age verification options for the store individually:
- Step 1: Log into Store Admin
- Step 2: Click Online Brand Stores
- Step 3: Click the Settings icon for the Online Brand Store

- Step 4: When you redirect to inside the specific store, click Store Settings -> Age Verification

Note: Whether multi-brand is enabled or disabled, the steps for setting up and managing the "Age Verification" settings will be the same. The multi-brand follows its own individual age-verification settings.2. Age Verification Settings
As a retailer/store Admin, when you navigate to the "Age Verification" settings for the first time, you will find the switch disabled by default. By clicking the Enable Age Verification switch, the "Age Verification" settings will be activated and ready for settings.
You can customize the age verification settings based on your business requirements. Customers will undergo age verification according to the following settings:
1. Enable Age Verification - Main Switch
Turn this switch on to enable Age Verification for the online store or app.
If only this setting is enabled, customers see an age verification pop-up when they access the website or app. Customers can still view age-restricted products and place an order if the other verification options are not enabled.
2. Verify the customer's age before showing age-restricted products
Enable this option when customers must verify their age before they can view age-restricted products. When enabled:
- Age-restricted products remain hidden until verification is completed.
- Customers must complete the configured age verification process to view these products.
3. Verify the customer's age during checkout
Enable this option when customers must verify their age before placing an order containing age-restricted products. When enabled:
- Customers can add age-restricted products to their cart.
- The customer must complete age verification during checkout.
- The customer cannot place the order until the required verification is completed.

4. Verify customer's age during fulfillment (by scanning DL/FTx Identity QR code)
Enable this option when the customer's age must be verified before the order is handed over to the customer. The fulfillment employee can verify the customer's age using:
- Driver's License scanning (by uploading the backside image of the Driver's License)
- FTx Identity QR Code scanning
If scanning is unsuccessful, the employee can enter the customer's DOB manually when the manual DOB option is enabled.
Allow Employees to Enter DOB Manually
When Verify Customer's Age During Fulfillment is enabled, the Allow employees to enter DOB manually when DL/FTx Identity QR scan fails option is enabled by default.
This option allows fulfillment employees to enter the customer's DOB when Driver's License or FTx Identity QR scanning is unsuccessful. Keeping this option enabled allows employees to continue the fulfillment process when scanning is not successful.
Note: When the Manual DOB option is disabled, the Admin user will get a confirmation message explaining that store employees will no longer have the option to enter a customer's date of birth manually if DL or QR code verification fails.5. Verify age using FTx Identity
To integrate this option, you must set up and configure the age verification settings in FTx Identity, like Date of Birth (DOB) Entry, Driver’s License (DL) Upload, Live Camera Face Recognition, OTP verification on Mobile Number, and Address Details aligning with Driver's License. Based on the configuration set in FTx Identity, customers must complete the age verification process on the website/app accordingly.
Note: On the Store Admin side, a drop-down menu will display the available configuration options set up in FTx Identity. You must select the appropriate configuration to apply it to your online store/app.If multi-brand is enabled for the retailer’s account from Control Center, age verification settings can be configured for the brand individually. But age-restriction configuration, which is how customers verify their age, can be set up on the FTx Identity side. Retailers can decide which age verification process they want to apply for the brand as per the age-restriction configuration at the FTx Identity side.
Once you have configured the age verification settings, click "Save" to apply them.
3. Age Verification Options for Customers
The customer experience depends on the Age Verification settings enabled in Store Admin.

When Verify customer's age during checkout is enabled and the cart contains age-restricted products, the Verify Your Age step is displayed during checkout.

Enabling Alternate Person
If the customer's profile is already age-verified, the customer's DOB is displayed as read-only. If Alternate Person Name is enabled and entered, the alternate person's DOB is required. The DOB entered for the alternate person is used for verification when that person collects the order.
Hence, retailers/Store Admins can enable age verification to ensure compliance, allowing customers to purchase age-restricted products only after verification.
